I’ve only supported 2 previous kickstarter campaigns, but when I came across the Ping: Trackable Disc Golf Kickstarter campaign yesterday, I couldn’t resist supporting it.
Chris Martin and the crew at Tobu Discs have created the world’s first disc golf disc tracking system. Besides creating the Ping disc, they also created a smartphone app that can help you locate your discs as well as record your game statistics.
It’s no surprise that Tobu Discs were the driving force behind the recent PDGA technical standards change. Back in November, the PDGA approved electronic components being incorporated in production disc models as long as no metal is exposed. As a result, discs can now be manufactured with electronics attached or embedded; and still be used in tournament play.
You can learn about the Kickstarter campaign by watching the video below. Like all Kickstarter campaigns, there are rewards depending on the amount you donate. You can also visit their Kickstarter site where there are many more details on the project as well as some of their challenges and a frequently answered questions section.
So what do you think? Is this something you’d consider supporting? Give us your reasons why or why not in the comments below.
